Lake Gairdner is a large drainage lake in central South Australia , considered to be Australia 's fourth largest salt lake when it is filled with water.

It is a large lake with salt marshes in the Australian state of South Australia, north of the Eyre Peninsula . Being filled with water, the lake is the third largest salt lake in Australia [1] .

Description
The size of the lake is more than 160 km long and 48 km wide with a thickness of salt deposits reaching up to 1.2 meters in some places. It is located west of Lake Torrens , 150 km northwest of Port Augusta and 440 km northwest of Adelaide . The lake is located at an altitude of 121 m above sea level [2] .
Lake Gardner was named South Australian Governor Richard MacDonnell in October 1857 .
Lake Gerdner together with Lake Everard and Lake Harris make up the territory of Lake Gerdner National Park [3] . The lakes were once part of the inland sea, which stretched to the Gulf of Carpentaria [4] .
Six drying creeks feed the lake, including Garden Well Creek, Gorge Creek and Yeltabinna Creek [5] .
The land occupying Lake Gerdner was named by the Government of South Australia on April 26, 2013, Lake Gerdner [6] [7] .
