Under natural conditions, grows in North America in the western United States, trees reach 50 m in height.
Adult trees annually give cones consisting of 4 (less than 6) scales located in pairs-opposite, ripening in the same autumn, a few months after pollination. Dicotyledonous trees. The needles on the side shoots have a length of 7 mm, located on the axial - 14 mm.
It was introduced over a hundred years ago, in the coastal regions of the Caucasus where it got accustomed well, it is very decorative in plantings.
The dense reddish wood of the tree is resistant to decay and has good mechanical properties. Under favorable conditions, lives up to 600-700 years. It is also called Incense River Cedar, Incense River Cedar.
