Flowering period: from August to April with a maximum in November [5] . According to other sources, it blooms in spring and summer [6] . Duration of flowering is four to five weeks [4] .
Estimated rainfall: from 18 mm in January to 234 mm in June. Average relative air humidity : more than 70% in winter, about 80% in the rest of the year [5] .
Aerangis biloba is listed in Appendix II of the CITES Convention. The purpose of the Convention is to ensure that international trade in wild animals and plants does not endanger their survival.
Etymology and Description History
The species was described by John Lindley in 1840 under the name Angraecum bilobum .
The species name "biloba" (bilobate) was given to the plant for a deep cut at the end of the leaves.
English name - The Two-lobed Aerangis .
Biological Description
Miniature monopodial plants .
Stem up to 20 cm long.
Leaves (up to 10 pcs.) Are ovoid, with a deep neckline at the apex, dark green with black dots 18 cm long, up to 6 cm wide. The rosette of leaves is located in one plane.
Inflorescence from 10 to 40 cm long, carries from 2 to 20 flowers [6] .
The flowers are white, 3-4 cm in diameter, with a slight pinkish tinge along the edge of the petals, with a strong and pleasant sweet aroma . Spur 5-6 cm long, with a pinkish tinge. Polliniev two.
In Culture
The temperature group is warm.
Most preferred landing on the block , possible landing in a small basket for epiphytes, a plastic or ceramic pot.
The substrate is a mixture of medium- sized pine bark (pieces from 0.5 to 1.0 cm), perlite and charcoal .
Lighting: 15000-23000 lux. Plants should not be exposed to direct sunlight [5] .
According to other sources, the plant is extremely shade-tolerant. When kept in bright light, it stops growing and does not bloom.
During active vegetation, watering is plentiful (when planting on the block, in hot weather you need to water several times a day), in winter, when the air temperature drops, watering is reduced (twice a week if the plant is planted on the block) [4] . According to other sources, the growing conditions should be the same throughout the year [5] .
It is important to maintain a neutral pH balance, since Aerangis biloba does not tolerate the accumulation of salts in the substrate and the velamen covering the roots. For watering plants, it is recommended to use water that has been purified by reverse osmosis , with the addition of specially calculated doses of fertilizers.
The presence of air movement around the root system reduces the risk of bacterial and fungal infections. Do not cover the roots with sphagnum or other water-absorbing substrate. After watering, the roots should dry quickly enough [4] .
During the period of active growth, a complex fertilizer for orchids is applied every week (1 / 4-1 / 2 of the recommended dose) [5] .
