Career
Early years
Bordon began his career at the Botafogo Club Academy in Ribeiran Preto . At the age of 17, he became a São Paulo player, where he played until the end of 1999.
Stuttgart
In January 2000, Bordon joined the German club Stuttgart . The Brazilian quickly went through adaptation in the new club and eventually became one of the best central defenders in the Bundesliga . September 16, 2003 Bordon made his debut in the Champions League in a match against the Scottish Rangers club (1: 2). Marcelo was known not only for high defensive skills, but also for an effective game in attack. On March 28, 2004, he scored a hat-trick against the Werder Bremen [4] .
Schalke 04
In the summer of 2004, Bordon moved to Schalke 04 for 4 million euros. In the first season for the new club, he played in 27 matches in the championship. In the last round match against Freiburg , Bordon scored the first two goals for Schalke. In the 2005/06 season, Marcelo as part of the “cobalt” became the owner of the German League Cup , beating the Stuttgart (1-0) in the final.
In the 2006/07 season, Bordon became the Schalke captain, who finished second in the league. In the 2007/08 season, five Brazilian goals helped Schalke take third place and enter the Champions League again. Bordon spent the 2010/11 season in the Qatari club Al-Rayyan , scoring one goal in 11 matches in the championship. In 2011, he completed his career as a football player.
On July 9, 2011 at the Feltins Arena , his farewell match took place, and Bordon was also elected to the Schalke Hall of Fame.
Brazil national team
Bordon played one match for the Brazilian national team - against the Hungarian national team in 2004. He was included in the 2004 American Cup team, where the Brazilians defeated Argentina in the final.
