Biography
Born in 1730 in Etchmiadzin in a family of hereditary Armenian artists. Hovnatan Hovnatanyan was the son of Hakob Hovnatanyan . He was a court painter Heraclius II. in 1782 - 1786 with students restored and supplemented the painting of the cathedral in Etchmiadzin made in 1721 by his grandfather Hovnatan Nagash . Also, his pen belongs to the painting of the Norashen church, completed by his son Mkrtum . The theme of these interesting paintings is a diverse floral ornament made in orange-red and blue-purple colors. He performed (for the same cathedral) a series of images of saints and compositions on gospel themes, some of which are now kept in the art gallery of Armenia .
He died in 1801 in Tiflis .
