Education and scientific degrees
- In 1973 he graduated from high school (East Detroit High School) at Eastpoint.
- In 1977, he received a bachelor 's degree (biological sciences) from the US Naval Academy.
- In 1981, he received a doctorate in medicine from Wayne State University.
- In 1988, he received a master 's degree (systems management) from the University of Southern California.
- In 1989, he received a master's degree (healthcare) from the University of North Carolina .
- In 1989, he received a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the same university.
Professional Activities
After leaving the squad of astronauts and from the army, he works as a teacher at the School of Medicine at the Division of Sports Medicine at the University of California, San Diego .
Military Service
He completed an internship at the Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego and an internship in aerospace medicine at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola . He served as a Navy flight surgeon based on Cubi Point in the Philippines .
