Career

Daniel Fonseca began his career at the Nacional club in 1988, and played for this team for two years, having spent 14 matches and scoring 3 goals, winning with the team the South American Super Cup and the Inter-American Cup in 1989, a year earlier the Nacional won in the Libertadores Cup and the Intercontinental Cup , but Fonseca did not participate in them.

In 1990, Fonseca moved to the Italian club Cagliari , where the nominal central striker Fonseca played on the left in the midfield, acting as a winger, because in the first season Fonseca scored only 8 goals in 27 matches, and in the second 9 goals in 23 meetings. In the summer of 1992, Fonseca moved to the Napoli club, which was looking for a replacement for Diego Maradone , who was suspended for 16 months. Acting in the usual center-forward position, Fonseca scored 16 goals in the championship, but was most remembered for the UEFA Cup match against Valencia , in which Fonseca scored all 5 goals of his team, and Napoli won 5: 1. In the second season, Fonseca scored 15 goals in 27 games, becoming the idol of tiffozi. But at the end of the season, Fonseca was put up for transfer due to Napoli’s financial problems.

Buyers to Fonseca were found quickly, it turned out to be Roma , which paid 20 billion liras to Napoli and bought the Torino player Benito Carbone to the Neapolitan club. However, in “Roma” Fonseca did not show great results, scoring eight goals in the first and second season, and in the third only four goals, at that time in “Roma” Abel Balbo was the leader of the attack, and Fonseca only replaced the Argentine, who often injured. In 1997, Fonsecu bought the Juventus club, which was looking for a striker who knows how to replace, in the first season, Daniel spent 15 matches with Juve and scored 4 goals, most of the substitution games. But already in the next season, the striker won the spot at the base, often played (25 matches) and scored a little (6 goals), but the start of the 1999-2000 season was overshadowed by the serious injury of Fonseca, because of which the Uruguayan spent only 2 matches in 2 years.

In 2000, Fonseca, in the midst of the Italian season, terminated, by mutual agreement, a contract with the “Old Signora” and transferred to the Argentinean “ River Plate ”, remembering that he brought the “River” in a draw in a fundamental match with “ Boca Juniors ” in the match of the Verano tournament but Fonseca spent only 2 months at the River. In 2001, Fonseca returned to Nacional, in which Fonseca holds 5 matches and scores 2 goals, winning the national championship. In the same 2001, Fonseca moved to the Italian “ Como ”, but he almost did not play there, and in 2003 decided to end his career after the club coach said that Fonseca did not fit into his game scheme and play in the first team “ Como ”Fonseca will not.

After his career, Fonseca got a job as an agent, representing the interests of such players as Fernando Muslera , Martin Cáceres , David Trezeguet , Luis Alberto Suarez .

On May 19, 2007, Fonseca was sentenced to two years in prison for raping a massage therapist from the city of Como , after negotiating with the victim and paying her 280 thousand euros, the case was limited to conditional punishment of Daniel. But due to the fact that it was still instituted, FIFA automatically forbade Fonseca to represent the interests of football players because of the regulation according to which agents should not have criminal penalties.
