Guitarist Jeff Hanneman wrote most of the songs for the album, which was identified by Slayer as the most experimental album. The name comes from Latin, the translation is Devil in Music , a musical interval known for its dissonance. Lyrical themes explored on the album include religion, dissent, death, war, maniacs and serial killers.

Album Record
Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman described the record as,
When we wrote this album, I was looking for something awesome; I wanted it to scare me, but nothing really impresses me now. Nothing seemed really aggressive or heavy enough to inspire me, so I could only come up with something of my own.
.
The album was produced by Rick Rubin and recorded at Oceanway Studios. AdMan Begran of PopMatters felt that Slayer introduced features in the music, including a reduced guitar structure, dark chord structures, and churning beats. He believed that these features were adopted with the growth of the burgeoning nu-metal scene. [5] Drummer Paul Bostaf claims that this album is his favorite, and that "he is experimental like Slayer himself." In an interview with High Times, it was explained that this is expressed in a combination of groove metal elements and unusual vocal effects [6] .
Album Title
Diabolus in Musica (from Latin - “The Devil in Music”) is the triton musical interval, which received its name in the Middle Ages. In the European musical science of that time, such intervals were considered ugly, even obscene, and therefore they were called "devilish" and were not used in music. [7] Commenting on the album, Tom Araya joked that people were executed for using this interval. [8] He also expressed concern about the lyrics that King composed for the song In the Name of God , and consulted with guitarist Hanneman about it. [9] Jason Hundey of Allmusic said, "Fortunately, the lyrics haven't changed; they still stick to familiar themes, such as religion, death, war, and serial killers." [ten]

Musica's Diabolus was released on June 9, 1998 by American Recordings. In its first week of release, the album sold 46,000 copies in the United States and debuted at number 31 on the Billboard 200. [16] On August 16, 2006, the album sold 290,000 copies in the United States. In a review of Soundtrack to the Apocalypse , PopMatters ' Adrian Begran said of the album "a unique record, as Slayer incorporates many of the features of a burgeoning nude metal scene (tuned down guitars, dark chord structures) into its signature sound. [17] However, not all reviewers were so confident in the album. Consideration Slayer God Hates Us All, Blabbermouth.net reviewer Boridzhov Krdzhin described Diabolus in Musica as "a feeble attempt to merge the updated elements of sound that Slayer could refrain from endless paraphrases of their previous material for their future etc. oduktsii. [18] Commenting on the Slayer concert on the , the New York Times columnist Ben Ratliff complained that “eight of the 11 songs on Diabolus in Musica <...> are in the same gray key.” [19] Songs from the album were rarely played at live concerts after the return of drummer Dave Lombardo in 2003, with the exception of the song “Stain of Mind”.
