Service history
U-2511 was one of the two (second U-3008) submarines of type XXI, which went on a military campaign. Under the command of one of the most titled submariners, Adalbert Schnee, she went to sea on April 30, 1945 and was on her way to the Panama Canal to perform her combat mission when she received an order of surrender. Just a few hours later, she came in contact with the British heavy cruiser HMS Norfolk (1928) and went on the attack, approaching the cruiser at a distance of about 500 meters, remaining unnoticed. U-2511 arrived in Bergen on May 5, 1945, where the crew surrendered to the Allies. During the meeting that followed a few days later, the Norfolk officers did not immediately believe the submariners, who had told about the release of the attack. In 1946, U-2511 was flooded as part of Operation Deadlight .
