History
The emergence of the clan dates back to the XII century . The founder of the clan is Guilloine, who lived in the kingdom of Dal Riad . The clan has traditionally supported the kings of Dal Riad in the fight against the Picts .
At the beginning of the 15th century, Matheson was an influential mountain clan. The leader could assemble an army of 2,000 people under his command. As a result of a successful war with the Sutherland clan, clan lands were conquered. But by the end of the century, due to the struggle for leadership, the clan loses its influence [3] .
