Dmitry Mikhailovich Volodikhin (born June 1, 1969 , Moscow ) is a Russian historian , writer and literary critic , publisher . Doctor of Historical Sciences , Professor of the History Department of Moscow State University . He is known as the author of a number of monographs on the history of the Russian Middle Ages , more than 400 scientific and popular science works , study guides , critical articles, reviews, as well as fiction in the genres of science fiction , sacred fiction and fantasy . It is considered the author of the term " folk history " [1] [2] . Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences [3] .

Biography

Born in the family of an officer of the border troops of the USSR and a teacher in Moscow . Russian In 1986 he graduated from school number 39 in Moscow. In 1987 - 1989 he served as an ordinary air defense forces of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany .

In 1986-1993 , he was a student at the Faculty of History of MV Lomonosov Moscow State University and, later, a graduate student at Moscow State University. He specializes in the history of medieval Russia , archival studies , paleography . Since 1991, he has been working at the Department of Source Studies and Historiography of Moscow State University , professor since 2014.

Since 1995 - candidate of historical sciences; he defended his thesis “The Patriarchal Command Archive as a Source on the History of Russian Book Culture of the 17th Century ” (scientific adviser V. A. Pugin ; official opponents B. M. Kloss and N. S. Borisov ) [4] . In the same year he received the first prize at the Competition of Young Scientists at Moscow State University for the book “The Struggle for Polotsk between Lithuania and Russia in the 12th – 16th Centuries” (Moscow, 1994), written in collaboration with D. N. Alexandrov .

He worked as an editor at the publishing house "Planet" . In 1993-2007 - editor, deputy editor-in-chief, executive director of Avanta + Publishing House, participated in the preparation of the latest series of Encyclopedia for Children and other publications, the head of the Anthology of World Children's Literature and the Anthology of World Fantasy projects . For the preparation of the Encyclopedia for Children, he was awarded the Presidential Prize in the field of education for 2001 [5] . In 1995-2001 , he taught a number of training courses at the University of the Russian Academy of Education .

From 1997 to 2009, he headed his own publishing house, Manufactura. In 2007-2008 , he was the editor of the department of culture in the socio-political publication Political Journal . From the summer of 2008 to March 2012, he was the deputy editor-in-chief of the historical and cultural magazine Svoy Nikita Mikhalkov .

In 2011, he defended his doctoral dissertation “The Social Composition of the High Command of the Armed Forces of Russia in the 1530-1570s” (scientific adviser M. M. Mukhamedzhanov ; official opponents D. Yu. Arapov , V.V. Penskaya and G.V. Talina ) [6] . In 2011-2013, he taught at the literary courses of the Moscow City Organization of the Union of Writers of the Russian Federation (a group of genre romance). He was awarded the Makariev Prize for the monograph Pozharsky (2013).

In 2014–2017 - Advisor to the Director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies [7] . From May 17, 2017 to January 10, 2018, he was the chief editor of the website of the Two-Headed Eagle Society.

Since October 15, 2018 - Assistant to the Chairman of the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Clement.

Member of the joint dissertation council D 999.073.04 on theology of the Church-wide postgraduate and doctoral studies named after Saints Equal to the Apostles Cyril and Methodius , St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Humanitarian University , Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov and the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration [ 8] .

He is the deputy chairman of the board of the Historical and Educational Society and a member of the editorial board of the almanac " Historical Review ". Since 1994 he has been a member of the editorial and publishing board of the Institute of Special Historical Disciplines of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences . Founder and editor-in-chief (1997-2001) of the journal Russian Middle Ages.

Lives in Moscow. Since 2000, married to Irina Stankova. In 2001 he converted to Orthodoxy .

Community Activities

In 1997, he began and led the struggle of historians with the so-called “new chronology” of the academician-mathematician Anatoly Fomenko and the literary and journalistic works of other representatives of the folk history genre , claiming to be scientific, but not scientists and denying academic history.

As part of the campaign, in December 1999, he organized a conference at the History Department of Moscow State University, which brought together more than 400 leading historians and recognized representatives of other scientific disciplines [9] . He introduced into the scientific circulation the neologism of folk history [10] . He published ( co-authored ) the book History of Russia in Small Peas [11] , a number of other books and articles in periodicals devoted to harsh criticism of folk history.

He defines his sociopolitical views as statist and imperial . In 1999, he became one of the founders of the association of science fiction writers, historians, journalists, and literary critics of the imperial-patriotic direction - the literary and philosophical group Bastion. Within its framework, he directed the literary seminar for beginner science fiction writers "Small Bastion". It is a member of the Karamzinsky Club, which was established with her in 2006. He was a member of the historical and cultural society "Moscow Antiquities" from 2009 to 2012.

From April 2006 to December 2007 and from January to December 2009 - Chairman of the Coordinating Council (COP) of the Conservative Journalism League .

Literary work

The literary debut was the publication in the Student Meridian in 1991 of the story Breakthrough . Since 1997, he has been publishing review articles and reviews in the weekly Book Review . At the same time, he wrote critical articles in the NF-magazines “ If ”, “The World of Fantasy ”, “ Star Road ”, “ Reality of Fantasy ”, “ Nameless Star ”, “ FASTastika ”, as well as literary magazines “ Banner ”, “ Moscow ”, “Our contemporary ”and others. As a science fiction writer made his debut in 2000 with the story “ The Population of Sly Cats ” . He released 12 novels, about 50 short stories, short stories, and fairy tales.

Cavalier of the Karamzin Cross for the novel Volunteer (2008). In 2001, 2005, 2008 and 2012 he was a finalist of the International Literary Prize named after A. and B. Strugatsky .

Since the second half of the 2000s, he began to write less fiction and pay more attention to Russian history. He created a number of scientific and artistic descriptions of sovereigns, commanders and saints of the era of the Moscow state . He was awarded the Patriarchal Literary Prize named after Saints of Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius with the wording “for a significant contribution to the development of Russian literature” (2019).
