Niyazi Zulfugar oglu Tagi-zade-Hajibeyov [1] , also known as Niyazi ( azerb. Niyazi Zülfüqar oğlu Tağızadə-Hacıbəyov ; 1912 - 1984 ) - Soviet Azerbaijani conductor and composer . People's Artist of the USSR (1959), Hero of Socialist Labor (1982), winner of two Stalin Prizes of the II degree (1951 and 1952).

Biography

Niyazi was born on August 7 ( August 20 ), 1912 in Tiflis (now Tbilisi , Georgia ).

In 1921, he played the violin in a Turkish military band.

He was engaged in the composition class with M.F. Gnesin at the Musical College named after Gnesins in Moscow (1925-1926), with A. L. Stepanyan at the Yerevan Conservatory , with G. N. Popov at the Leningrad Central Music College (1929-1930, did not finish his studies - health problems prevented), in 1933-1934 years - at the Baku Conservatory (teachers - L. M. Rudolph and S. Strasser).

In 1932-1933 - head of the sector of science, literature and art of the People's Commissariat of Education of the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic . In 1935-1937, the head of the musical part of the Azerbaijan film studio . In 1937-1938 - the artistic director of the Azerbaijan state stage . In 1938-1944 - deputy chairman of the organizing committee, from 1956 - member of the board of the Union of Composers of the Azerbaijan SSR .

In 1937-1948 - conductor, in 1951-1952 and 1958-1959 - chief conductor, in 1961-1965 - director, artistic director and chief conductor of the Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theater. M.F. Akhundova . At the same time, since 1938 (intermittently) - artistic director and chief conductor of the Uzeyir Hajibeyov Azerbaijan Symphony Orchestra . In 1946 he became a laureate of the All-Union Conductors' Review.

In 1960-1961 - chief conductor of the Leningrad Opera and Ballet Theater. S. M. Kirov .

Since 1979 - Director of the Azerbaijan Philharmonic .

Toured abroad. He performed in Prague, Berlin, Budapest, Bucharest, New York, Paris, Istanbul, Tehran, London and Beijing.

Member of the CPSU (b) since 1942. Member of the Armed Forces of the Azerbaijan SSR of the 3-8th convocations (1951-1975). Member of the USSR Armed Forces of the 11th convocation (1984).

Niyazi died on August 2, 1984 . He was buried in the Alley of Honor in Baku .

On September 18, 1994, the Niyazi House Museum was opened.

In 2017, a monument to Niyazi was opened in Baku [2] .

  • Wife (since 1933 ) - Hadzhar Hajibeyova, had no children from this marriage [3] .
  • According to some sources, he was married to Bariat Soltan Majidovna Muradova (1914-2001), an actress. People's Artist of the USSR (1960) [4] .
