Sphincter of Kannon (synonyms: left sphincter of the transverse colon , left sphincter of Kennon , sphincter of the left bend of the colon ; Latin sphincter flexura coli sinistra ) - thickening of the circular smooth muscles of the muscular membrane of the transverse colon in the area of ββits left (spleen). It is located approximately two thirds of the length of the transverse colon from its beginning. The existence of this sphincter in humans is not universally recognized. [one]

Anatomical characteristics
The thickness of the circular muscle layer in the region of the sphincter is 779 Β± 37.9 ΞΌm, while before and after the sphincter, the thickness of the muscle layer is 259 Β± 17.02 ΞΌm and 286 Β± 37.2 ΞΌm, respectively.
The sphincter is not often observed during endoscopic examinations (in about 5% of cases) and has a triangular shape. [2]
Etymology
The sphincter is named after the American physiologist Walter Bradford Cannon ( 1871 - 1945 ).
