The Gospel of Peter is one of the New Testament apocrypha . It existed in the first centuries of Christianity , but was rejected by the church. Justin knew the gospel of Peter.
The Gospel of Peter refers to the Gospels of the Passion - tells of the judgment of Pilate , the crucifixion of Jesus , his burial and Resurrection . Also, the Gospel of Peter contains a fragment considered by theologians as a tale of the descent into hell . The text ends with the appearance of Jesus to the myrrh-bearing women .
In 1886 [1] in Ahmim ( Egypt ) in the grave of a medieval monk were found: an excerpt from the Gospel of Peter, “The Apocalypse of Peter ” and the Book of Enoch . The works were written in Greek. In the penultimate phrase of a fragment of the Gospel, the author calls himself: " I, Simon Peter ... " [2] . The Gospel of Peter caused great controversy both among theologians and among historians [3] [4] .
