Biography
Fritz Amling was born on January 16, 1916 in the Prussian Netherlands province of East Prussia into a farmer's family. Finished school.
October 1, 1937 drafted into the Wehrmacht in the 24th artillery regiment. Even in the pre-war time, on May 10, 1939, he was promoted to the rank of Wahmister , and in this rank as part of the 24th Infantry Division he took part in the Polish and French campaigns.
After the outbreak of hostilities against the Soviet Union on October 1, 1941, he was promoted to the rank of master and sent to the Eastern Front in the 202nd self-propelled artillery battalion ( German Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 202 ), which by that time was under the command of Major Hans Marder ( German Hans Marder ) and organizationally was part of Army Group Center .
Since the autumn of 1942, the 202nd self-propelled artillery battalion was included in the XXXIX tank corps of the 78th infantry division and was sent to the Podosinovka - Zherebtsovo - Kholm - Talitsa -Old Murzino- Khlepen area on December 11-12, to stabilize the critical situation at the front as a result of the start of the offensive operation of the Soviet troops "Mars" .
The gun commander of the 3rd battery, Fritz Amling, together with his gunner Bruno Guskowski ( German: Bruno Guskowski ) kept the defense in their area, destroying 42 Soviet tanks within 48 hours. At the same time, Amling managed to hit 24 tanks only on the first day of the Soviet offensive, of which 5 - in one minute. During the battle he was wounded, but continued to fire.
On December 11, 1942, Fritz Amling was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross for this feat (a telegram from the Fuhrer headquarters arrived on the evening of December 11, 1942). On December 24, 1942, the award ceremony was held at the construction site in Sychevka .
On March 1, 1943, Fritz Amling was transferred to the 300th reserve reserve self-propelled artillery battalion in Neiss , where he trained personnel.
Fritz Amling died on March 6, 1994 in Mainz .
