Geography
It stands on the right bank of the Chamlyk River.
Located on the highway Novocherkutino - Kinshino .
History
It arose at the end of the 18th century . Land surveying was carried out on September 11, 1775 [2] .
Name - according to the owners Safonov [3] .
A new land surveying was carried out in 1819, in connection with the acquisition of land by Prince Ivan Alekseevich Gagarin [4] .
In 1848, Prince Vladimir Ivanovich Gagarin built the Intercession Stone Church [5] [6] .
1861-1923 - volost center of the Safonovo volost of the Ottoman district of the Tambov province.
1923-1924 - Volost center of the Ottoman district of the Voronezh province.
Later, Safonovo was the center of the Safonovsky village council of the Dobrinsky district, then the functions of the council were transferred to the village of Kooperator .
Since May 12, 2014 is included in the rural settlement Dobrinsky Village Council
