History
Until 1948, the royal orchestra on especially solemn occasions performed without a word the song Salaamathi in the residence of the Sultan . Later it was stated about the need to write text and a new melody. The text was written in 1948 by Muhammad Jamel Didi. Shortly before the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to the Maldives , it was decided to create a new melody for the anthem as soon as possible. The original text of 1948 was slightly corrected to emphasize that the Maldives has been a republic since 1968 .
