Geographical position

Located on the southeastern slope of Mount Shalbuzdag , in the valley of the Usukhchay River, 17 km southwest of the village of Usukhchay .

Historically, the Kurush population is divided into patronymics - Tukhum (in Turkic), or Uimah (in Lezgi): Haytakyar , Gyilevar , Tetetsyar , Falakyar , Kyzyrar , Kirtar , Misriyar , Zangyavar , Avurar , Kebulurura . The village is divided into quarters: Pagwai kyler , Vienna kyler , Kirtar and Kamavaibur .

History

In the 18th century, ashug Lezgi Ahmed lived in Kurush. In 1886 in Kurush there were 718 yards for 4761 people, of which 2536 were men, 2225 were women. The total number of cattle is 71,451 sheep, 1,767 horses, 2189 cattle. There were 12 mills, 41 weavers, 6 people of felt, 2 dyers, one shoemaker, 4 carpenters, 3 artisans, tailors 3, 1 gunsmith and 8 musicians in the village. Historically, Kurushians were engaged in cattle breeding, agriculture, sowing mainly rye, oats, lentils. For themselves and for sale, the chicken made cloth, carpets, rugs, felt, braid, sheepskin, wool stockings, cheese, butter. In 1907, the Kurush community had a livestock of sheep and goats with a total number of 90 thousand heads. [12] In 1920, a literacy center was opened in Kurush. Then, a two-year school was opened at its base in the same year. In 1924, a five-year school opened. Classes in these years were conducted in homes; there were no schools as such. In 1930, a seven-year school functioned in Kurush. In 1931, the first collective farm was created in Kurush. During the Great Patriotic War, 570 people were drafted from Kurush. During the war years, 325 people died on the battlefields and in hospitals, 70 were missing. The total number of Kurushis who did not return home according to incomplete data was 395 people. [13]

In 1952, most of the population was relocated to the Khasavyurt district in the village of Kurush (New Kurush). The population of the villages of Elenovka, Ahed, Aghazy, Seferbine of the Republic of Azerbaijan are mainly Kurush settlers.

In one of the documents of the Kaitag Utsmii, the Shirvans complained to his nephew Elchav of the constant raids of Lezgins , due to the fact that they "often descend from roads that go along mountain heights, in view of the villages of Fiy , Maza, Kurush and Khinalug " [14] .

Facts

Kurush is the highest mountain settlement in the North Caucasus, in Russia and Europe (if you draw the border between Europe and Asia along the Caucasus Range) [15] [16] , located at an altitude of 2560 meters above sea level [17] . In addition, the village is the southernmost in the country [18] .

From the village of Kurush, climbers climb the peaks of Bazardyuzyu (4466 m), Shalbuzdag (4150 m) and Yerydag (3925 m).
