Biography
Born June 13, 1941 in Moscow, in a working class family. In 1959 he graduated from high school. In 1959-1963 studied at the Moscow Theological Seminary . In 1963 he entered the Moscow Theological Academy .
Since September 1, 1965 - novice of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra . On September 21, 1965, he was tonsured a monk with the name in honor of St. Jonah, Metropolitan of Moscow, All Russia Wonderworker .
On February 6, 1966, he was ordained a hierodeacon . On May 5, 1968, he was ordained a hieromonk .
In 1967 he graduated from the academy with a degree of candidate of theology for the essay "The Teachings of St. John of Damascus on the Unification of Two Natures in the Person of Jesus Christ." He was left as a professor scholarship holder and an employee of the Church and Archaeological Office.
Since 1967 - an employee of the Church and Archaeological Cabinet at the MDA (CAC), assistant inspector of the MDC. Since 1970 - lecturer at the Moscow Theological Academy and Seminary.
From 1970 to 1991 - Dean of the Intercession Church at the MDA.
In the summer of 1971 he was elevated to the rank of abbot . October 14, 1981 elevated to the rank of archimandrite .
Since March 1, 1991 - rector of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Exaltation in Altufev and dean of the Trinity District of Moscow. On his initiative, a unique temple of the mid-18th century was reconstructed and expanded, which caused complaints from architects.

On October 20, 1992, at a meeting of the Holy Synod, he was determined to be bishop of Astrakhan and Enotaevsky .
On October 24, 1992, during the all-night vigil in the Intercession Cathedral of the city of Astrakhan, the rank of Archimandrite Jonah was bishop was ordained.
On October 25, 1992, in the Assumption Patriarchal Cathedral of the Kremlin, consecration to the bishop of Astrakhan and Enotayevsky took place. February 25, 2002 was elevated to the rank of archbishop .
On March 12, 2013, by the Decision of the Holy Synod in connection with the formation of the new Akhtubinsk diocese, Archbishop Jonah was granted the title of Astrakhan and Kamyzyaksky; by the same decision, he was appointed head of the newly created Astrakhan Metropolis [2] , in connection with which he was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on March 24 [3] .
July 15, 2016 was put to rest due to health reasons due to reaching 75 years of age. The place of residence at rest is determined by Moscow [4] .
