Early years

He was born in 1892 by Mary Aronson (born in January 1872) and Louis Smart (born in February 1866) in Omaha , Nebraska . His father emigrated from Russia in 1883. He has four brothers and sisters: brother Alfred Smart (1895-1951), John Smart, Vera Smart Elden (Vera Smart Elden, 1899-?) And Florence Smart Richards. [4] [5]

The family moved to Illinois . The brothers’s other venture was Coronet Films, which in the 1950s produced educational and educational films. They are on display at the Smarts Art Museum. [6]

Alfred Smart (1895–1951)

Born in Omaha , Nebraska , June 17, 1894 and attended the University of Illinois. [7] After the First World War, he and his brother registered Publishing Enterprises. He was secretary and treasurer until 1947, when he was appointed president of Esquire magazine. The third brother, John Smart, was vice president . Alfred died on February 4, 1951 in Chicago .
