Arvid Ivanovich Kubbel ( November 12, 1889 , Petersburg - January 11, 1938 , Leningrad ) - Soviet , formerly Russian , chess player and chess composer , USSR master of sports in chess ( 1925 - 1935 ). Together with his brother Leonid, editor of the composition department of the journal " Chess Pieces " ( 1922 - 1931 ). Winner of the Congress of the Baltic Chess Union ( 1911 ); participant of the All-Russian Olympiad 1920 (5-7th place), 2nd and 4th championships of the USSR and the championship of Leningrad 1924 , 1925 (5th place) and 1928 . Since 1904 he published over 500 compositions, mainly of the three-stroke Czech school. At the competitions he was awarded a number of differences. Arrested on November 21, 1937 , shot on January 11, 1938 [1] .
