Duke of Suffolk

Earl Suffolk Residence - Charlton Park Wiltshire

The Duke of Suffolk and the Earl of Suffolk - a title in the peery of England , which has been assigned to various noble names more than once during the course of history. Derived from the name of the county of Suffolk (Suffolk)

The third creation of the Duke of Suffolk was for Henry Gray, 3rd Marquis of Dorset , in 1551 . The Duke also bore the title of Baron Ferrers of Grouby ( 1300 ). These titles were destroyed when the Duke was stripped of his rights and beheaded for treason in 1554 with his daughter Jane Gray .

Since 1603, the title of Earl of Suffolk passed to Lord Thomas Howard, who distinguished himself in the war against the Invincible Armada . His offspring from the Howard family, famous in English history, still bear the title of Earls of Suffolk and Berkshire.
