Biography
Sikonulf - brother of Benevento prince Sicard ( 832 - 839), killed by Radelhiz . Radelhiz proclaimed himself Prince of Benevento and concluded Sikonulf in Taranto . The inhabitants of Salerno and Amalfi managed to free Sikonulf, after which he was proclaimed prince. Between the two princes, a war began, to which Radelhis drew his Arab allies, terrorizing the population and destroying the church.
In 847, Emperor Lothar I intervened in the internecine war, inviting the dukes Guy Spoletsky and Sergius I of Neapolitan as mediators. In 849, the Italian king Louis II divided the principality of Benevento into two parts: the actual Benevento with Prince Radelhis and Salerno with Prince Sikonulf. Thus, Sikonulf became the first prince of Salerno. He died in the year 851 [1] , leaving heir to his young son Siko .
