History
The diocese in the city of Senj was founded in 1169 . In 1969, the Senj diocese was merged with the diocese of Rijeka and was promoted to the archdiocese-metropolis, after which it became known as the “archdiocese of Rijeka-Senj.” On May 25, 2000, it was renamed the Archdiocese of Rijeka , and the city of Senj became one of the two centers of the new diocese of Gospić-Senj, suffraganized in relation to the Riek metropolis.
As of 2014, the diocese had 66,172 Catholics (84.0% of the population), 51 priests and 85 parishes [1] . The cathedral of the diocese is the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Gospic . The Cathedral is the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Seine . From the moment the diocese was created in 2000 to 2016, the diocese was headed by Bishop Mile Bogovic ; from June 3, 2016, the diocese was headed by Zdenko Križić .
