Club career

West Bromwich Albion

Rowley started playing football at an amateur level for Wolverhampton Wanderers . From 1941 to 1944, along with his brother Jack, he played for Manchester United . In 1944 he signed a professional contract with West Bromwich Albion . However, he failed to truly show his qualities in the club.

Fulham

At the beginning of the 1948/49 season, Albion sold Rowley to Fulham , in which he managed to adapt quickly, scoring 19 goals in 22 matches and helping the club win the second division title.

After the club entered the First Division, Rowley was unable to demonstrate the same high goals, scoring only 8 goals in the 1949/50 season.

Leicester City

At the end of his first season in the top division of English football ( 1950 ), Rowley moved to Leicester City . He spent nine years at Leicester and scored 251 goals in championship games, including 44 goals in 42 matches, which Rowley scored in 1957 when the club won the second division championship medals.

Shrewsbury Town

In the summer of 1958, Rowley left Leicester, playing in the First Division, and became a playing coach at Shrewsbury Town , the newly created Fourth Division . In his first season at Gay Meadow , he helped the club enter the Third Division, scoring 38 goals in 43 matches. For the next six years, he also played for the club, scoring 152 goals in the championship.

Coaching career

Sheffield United

After completing his career as a player, Rowley remained at Shrewsbury for another four seasons, after which he moved to Sheffield United , where he became head coach on July 11, 1968 . Sheffield had just flown to the Second Division, but despite some good transfers, which subsequently played a role in the club’s return to the First Division, the team’s game results were poor and Rowley was fired from his post on August 6, 1969 .

Coaching Completion

Arthur coached Southend United from 1970 to 1976 , worked as an assistant to the head coach of Telford United and head coach of the clubs from the lower divisions of Knighton Town and Oswestry Town, after which he completed his coaching career. [one]
