Life and work
Milton Clark Avery grew up in Hartford , Connecticut , and later lived in New York. In 1926, he marries Sally Michelle, in 1932 they have a daughter, Marsh. From that moment on, the artist’s daughter, his family became the main theme of his work.
The first solo exhibition was held in 1928 in the New York Opportunity Gallery ("Gallery of Opportunities"), subsequently takes part in numerous exhibitions of avant-garde painting in the United States. The artist takes many creative trips, but he came to Europe for the first time only in 1952 .
For many American artists - contemporaries of Avery (for example, Adolf Gottlieb , Mark Rothko ) he was a creative example. The highest point of recognition of the artist’s contribution to 20th century American painting was a retrospective of the works of M.K. Avery organized in 1960 by the American Federation of Arts at the Whitney Museum in New York.
