History

Residents of Vakyfly are descendants of Armenians who resisted deportation in 1915 near Mount Musa-dag during the Armenian Genocide . [1] For 53 days, Armenians living in six Armenian villages on the slopes of Mount Musa Dag repulsed the attacks of the Turkish army until they were rescued by the French sailors and transported to Port Said in Egypt . These events formed the basis of the novel “The Forty Days of Musa Dag ” by the Austrian writer Franz Werfel . After the end of World War I, Il Hatay, together with six abandoned Armenian villages, became part of French Syria . The absence of the Turkish administration allowed the Armenians living on the slopes of Musa Dag to return to their villages. But in 1939, after a referendum, Hatay was transferred to Turkey, due to which many of the 5,000 Armenians living in Hatay left their villages and moved to Lebanon , having founded the city of Anjar there . Today, only about 130 Armenians remain in Khatai silt. [3]
