"Sydney" ( eng. Sydney ), R 17 - lightweight aircraft carrier of the "Majestic" type , which was in service with KVMS Australia . The construction of the aircraft carrier was launched for KVMS UK , called "Terribl" ( eng. Terrible - "terrible") and tail number R93 , during the Second World War . The ship was laid in 1943 , but with the end of the war its construction, as well as other representatives of the type , was stopped. On December 16, 1948, the ship was sold to KVMS of Australia, having received a new name and number and was completed for them, unlike most representatives of the type, according to the original design. It was used in the Korean War in 1951–1952 , after it was transferred to the role of a training aircraft carrier in 1955 , and in 1958 it was put into reserve. In 1962, the "Sydney" was returned to the fleet and in 1962 - 1963 converted into high-speed military transport. In this role, he took part in the war in Malaya in 1963-1964 and in the Vietnam War . In 1973, the aircraft carrier was excluded from the lists of the fleet and in December 23, 1975 was sold for scrap.
