History
Fort Wayne originated in 1794 at the site of the settlement of Kekyong, the traditional capital of the Miami Indians. The fort was built by the US Army among other forts and named after General Anthony Wayne .
In 1809, it signed an agreement between the United States and the Indians, according to which the Indians ceded 3 million acres of their land to the United States of America.
In 1832, the construction of the canal began , connecting Lake Erie and the Wobash River. To attract immigrants from Germany and Ireland to these works, land plots were sold at a very low price. But this project brought to Fort Wayne not only the necessary labor, but also led to religious clashes between Irish Catholics and German Lutherans . Despite this, in 1843 the canal was opened.
