The territory of direct federal subordination is in the states- federations : a territory not included in any subject of the federation and reporting directly to the federation. Often such territories are the capitals of states or are located in close proximity to them. In this case, they are called metropolitan territories or federal metropolitan districts. The status of territories of direct federal subordination also has some external dependent territories .
