Club career

Gibbs took his first steps in football at the Wimbledon club football school. Until 2004, he played for Wimbledon, but in 2004 the club academy was dissolved, and Gibbs got into Arsenal. Kieran began his career as a midfielder. He regularly played for the Arsenal youth team and the reserve team. Preparation for the 2007/08 season, Gibbs spent with the first team, playing in several friendly matches. For the game against Inter , Kieran received a standing ovation from the fans.

For the first team, Gibbs made his debut in the League Cup match against Sheffield United on October 31, 2007. On January 31, 2008, Gibbs was leased to Norwich City , from where he returned on April 29.

In the 2008/09 season, Kieran regularly played in the FA Cup and League Cup . On December 10, 2008, Gibbs made his Champions League debut, substituting for an away match against Porto . His debut in the championship of England took place on February 8, 2009 in a match against Tottenham .

In April 2009, due to the injury of the main left-back, Gael Clichy Kieran got the opportunity to leave in the first team. He played in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals with Villarreal , the FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea , the Champions League semi-finals against Manchester United and six matches of the FA championship . Despite the annoying mistake in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final, Gibbs did not lose heart and managed to finish the season with dignity, demonstrating a confident, mature game [2] .

The 2009/10 season was unsuccessful for Kiran. In connection with another Clichy injury that he received in early November, Gibbs got a chance to play for the first team again, but on November 24, in a Champions League match, a young defender broke his metatarsal bone. At first, it was assumed that he would miss 3 months, but the healing process went slowly, so it was decided to perform an operation on Gibbs foot, which excluded the possibility for him to appear on the field again this season [3] . At the beginning of the 2012/13 season, Kieran firmly established himself in the main squad of Arsenal.

Team appearances

Gibbs played for the youth national team of England (under 19 years), which did not make it to the final of the 2008 European Championship .

In 2009, Kieran was called up to the youth team , which made it to the final of the 2009 European Championships . In the process of preparing for the final stage, Gibbs played in various positions, including midfield. In a friendly match against Azerbaijan, he scored 2 goals, in the end his team won with a crushing score of 7-0. But Kieran played all the matches of the championship in the position of the left defender. England squad reached the finals, where they lost to the Germans with a score of 0: 4.
