Svargas

Svargas (until 2009 - “Svengard”) - reconstruction of a princely estate of the beginning of the 11th century in full size; Interactive project of the historical and cultural center “Varyazhsky Dvor” in the format of experimental archeology. The manor was built by a private person with the participation of groups of history buffs (the so-called " reenactors ") in 2005-2008. Located in the Vyborg district of the Leningrad region , near the city of Vyborg , on the 9th kilometer of the Svetogorsk highway.

The medieval city of Svargas

The project is supported and developed by the specially created historical and cultural center Varyazhsky Dvor, which has been operating since 2004 under the scientific supervision of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Anatoly Nikolayevich Kirpichnikov . On his initiative, the original working name "Svengard" ("Sven's yard") was changed on August 10, 2009 to "Svargas" - the Indo-European word [ clarified ] translated by scientists [ what? ] as "The sunny sky" [1] .

The project was implemented as a stationary permanent object of , the first in Russia object of this kind. This is a historical reconstruction of the era of the early Middle Ages or the so-called " Viking era " (VII-XI century), implemented in the form of a full-size model of a princely estate of the beginning of the XI century.

The project website says that in May 2008 the project was officially included in EXARC , the international organization of archaeological open-air museums and other objects involved in experimental archeology . However, as of April 2017, the project is listed under the old name on the EXARC website, with a period of activity 2005-2010 and the absence of EXARC and ICOM membership [2] .

Center Work

As of 2017, the “Medieval city of Svargas” operates as a permanent platform for reconstructing events from antiquity to modern history [1] , implementing educational programs taking into account the requirements for the subject “history”, as well as additional education programs to help specialists of educational services of schools Russia [1] - the application in practice of the theoretical knowledge gained in the study of the life, life and crafts of the Slavs, the practical orientation on the path “From the Varangians to the Greeks” , the early career guidance of schoolchildren, e primary skills in archeology and orienteering, rallying children's and teenage groups [1] .

The medieval city of Svargas operates year-round, 7 days a week by appointment for groups of 10 people or more [1] .
