Andranik Smbatovich Ter-Stepanyan ( March 31, 1918 - March 12, 1996 ) - Russian designer of rocket weapons, Hero of Socialist Labor ( 1981 ).

Biography
Andranik was born in Crimea, in the city of Simferopol , in the Armenian family of the water carrier worker Minas Balikyan and his wife, an illiterate housewife, Maryam. He was the sixth child. Family lived hard. Brother Maryam Smbat Ter-Stepanyan saw this. He and his wife had no children and he persuaded the Balikyan spouses to give him Andranik. He designed the boy as an adopted son, giving him his last name and patronymic.
The adoptive father worked as a teacher, he assigned Andranik to a Russian school. The boy liked learning, learned the basics of science easily and graduated from high school with a gold medal. He graduated from Moscow State Technical University named after N.E. Bauman in 1941 , but because of the beginning of World War II he did not manage to get a diploma and was sent to work at the Voroshilov military plant in Kolomna, then evacuated to Krasnoyarsk. He worked as a senior technologist of the workshop, at the end of the war he returned to MVTU and in 1946 he defended his diploma [1] [2] .
In 1956, he became the leading designer for the Bumblebee anti-tank missile system, the first Soviet anti-tank missile system. For many years he worked at the Special Design Bureau in Kolomna. Creator of the anti-tank missile systems Malyutka, Sturm-S, Sturm-V, wearable anti-aircraft missile systems Strela-2, Strela-3, Igla-1, Igla, tactical missile systems “ Point ”,“ Point-U ”, operational-tactical missile system“ Oka ”(SS-23).
Since 1988 he was retired. He died on March 12, 1996, was buried in the city of Kolomna.

- Cavalier of two orders of Lenin, orders of the October Revolution and the Red Banner of Labor, medals.
- Laureate of the Lenin ( 1976 ) and State ( 1969 ) Prizes.
