Sichan ( Chinese р 西昌 , pinyin : Xīchāng , literally: “west of Jianchang”) is a city county of Liangshan-Ii Autonomous District of Sichuan Province ( PRC ).

History
Under the Western Han Empire, Qundu County (邛 都 县) was established in these places. Under the Tang empire, these places were subordinate to the Jianchang Council (建昌 府). Under the Qing Empire, in 1730, Sichang County (西昌 县) was created west of Jianchang.
In 1939, the province of Sikan was formed, and the county of Sichan became part of it. In 1950, the county became part of the Xichang Special District (西昌 专区). In 1955, the Sican Province was disbanded, and the Xichang Special District was transferred to the Sichuan Province. In 1960, Dechan County was attached to Xichang County, but in 1962 it was rebuilt. In 1970, Xichang Special District was renamed Xichang District (西昌 地区).
In 1978, Xichang County was disbanded, and Xichang County was transferred to the Liangshan-Ii Autonomous Region; at the same time, the district government moved into it. In 1979, the urbanized part of Sichan County was allocated to Sichan City County. In 1986, Sichan County was disbanded, and its constituent territories were transferred to Sichan City County.
