All three goals in the match were scored within five minutes at the beginning of the second half. Stuart Pearson opened the scoring in the match by taking the ball after a long pass from his goalkeeper and breaking heavily into the net gate, protected by Ray Klemens . “Liverpool” almost immediately recouped the efforts of Jimmy Case , a blow to the upper corner of the United goal did not leave any chances for Stepney . Three more minutes later, United again stepped forward after Lou Makari hit the chest with Jimmy Greenhoff and flew into the Liverpool gate with a ricochet, passing Clemens and Phil Neal , who was standing on the goal line.
The victory of United did not allow Liverpool to win the “ demand ” - this is the record Manchester United set in the 1998/99 season . The following Wednesday after this match, Liverpool won the European Cup [1] .
