NBA 2008 Draft

The 2008 NBA Draft took place on June 26 at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York , NY . For the 2008 draft, applications were submitted to 44 players: 39 college graduates and 5 foreign players. This number does not include players who are automatically eligible to be drafted. The draft ceremony was shown in the USA on ESPN and in another 202 countries. The 2008 Seattle Supersonics Club participated in the draft for the last time, in July the team moved to Oklahoma and received a new name - Oklahoma City Thunder [1] .

  • z On September 17, 2002, the Phoenix obtained the right to choose the 2008 Draft in the second round from Cleveland in exchange for Milta Palacio [4] . The Suns have chosen Malik Hairston .

Notes

  • a Seattle Supersonics franchise was sold, the club moved and received a new name in July 2009 - Oklahoma City Thunder [1] .

Draft Rules

Unlike previous years' draft picks, players from school teams could not take part in the draft. Under a new agreement, new age restrictions were established between the league and the players' union:

  • Players born later than December 31, 1987, regardless of nationality, could not participate in the draft.
  • US players must graduate from school at least a year ago.
