In the house of Princess S. G. Volkonskaya on the Moika embankment "at the Konyushenny Bridge", the family of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin rented an apartment from early September 1836 . After the death of the poet, the house was rebuilt several times. The architectural appearance of the apartment has also changed significantly. In the fall of 1924, the former Pushkin apartment was transferred to the Pushkin circle of the Old Petersburg society, and work began on its reconstruction, which continued in subsequent years. On February 10, 1925, a meeting was held in the poet’s restored office dedicated to the anniversary of the death of A.S. Pushkin. The first museum was opened in several rooms on February 13, 1927 , then it was substantially transformed on the 100th anniversary of the poet's death - February 10, 1937 (according to a new style).

Today, the museum stores many genuine things that, decades later, have again taken their former places here. The poet’s desk and his beloved Voltaire’s chair, a travel casket and a desk, canes and a smoking pipe, an inkwell with an arachnochka — all these and other objects in the office remind us of Alexander Pushkin’s life today. In the poet’s wife’s room you can see her portrait, made in 1832 by the artist A.P. Bryullov , as well as her perfume bottle, coral bracelet, purses embroidered with beads and silk, and other memorabilia.

Among genuine Pushkin relics are portraits of the poet himself and members of his family. The museum also stores things related to the duel and the death of A.S. Pushkin - a vest that was on it on the day of the fight, a lock of hair cut from the deceased's head at the request of I.S. Turgenev , a posthumous mask of the sculptor S.I. Halberg , as well as an authentic sofa on which the poet died on January 29, 1837 .

In the lower (basement) floor, where there were utility rooms in Pushkin’s time, there is an “introductory” exposition dedicated to the last months of the life of A. Pushkin. Two small rooms feature engravings, watercolors and lithographs of the Pushkin era, portraits of the poet’s friends, authentic wedding shoes of Pushkin’s wife, and fragments of drapery that once decorated one of the rooms of the poet’s apartment, donated to the museum in 1968 by collector S. Lifar . It also contains materials telling about the duel on January 27, 1837 on the Black River : a copy of the anonymous libel received by Pushkin on November 4, 1836 , the conditions of the duel signed by the seconds A.S. Pushkin and Baron Georg Gekkeren (Dantes) - K.K.Danzas and Viscount Olivier d'Archiac (in the literature about Pushkin, due to the incorrect decoding of the French initial, “O” is usually referred to as Auguste d'Archiac [1] ).
