The early years

He came from the Ostseey clan Glazenap , which gave the Russian army and navy numerous generals and admirals. He was born on February 2 ( 13 ), 1784 (sources also indicate 1785 and 1786) in the estate of Peri in estland.

He was educated in the 1st Cadet Corps , from which he was released on November 25, 1804 as a cornet to the Pavlograd Hussars .

Military Service

Fourth Coalition War

In 1805, during the first war with Napoleon, he participated in the battles of Amsteten , Shengraben , Wischau and Austerlitz and for the difference in the latter received the Order of St. Anna of the 3rd degree.

Transferred to the regiment of Konstantin Pavlovich Tsesarevich on August 17, 1806, Glazenap also took part in the second war with the French , was in the battles of Guttstadt , Heilsberg and Friedland and was awarded a gold saber with the inscription "For Courage" on May 20, 1808. On December 7, 1807, he was promoted to lieutenant and on December 12, 1810, to staff captains .

Patriotic War of 1812

During the Patriotic War, he participated in the August and October battles near Polotsk , near Bely, at Driss , Chashniki and Borisov .

Sixth Coalition War

In the campaign of 1813 in Prussia - at Bauzen , Lutsen , Dresden , Kulm , Leipzig and Buttelstedt and in the campaign of 1814 in France - at Brienne , Montmiral , Cézan, Sompui, Fer-Champenoise (he was wounded in the left side by a bullet) and Paris . For the difference in these battles, he was awarded the rank of captain (October 31, 1812) and orders: Russian - St. Vladimir 4th degree with a bow for Polotsk (in October), St. Anna 2nd degree for Kulm, St. George 4 degree for Sompui (May 3, 1814, No. 2930 according to the list of Grigorovich - Stepanov) and diamond signs to the Order of St. Anne of the 2nd degree (for the capture of Paris), the Prussians - with the Iron Cross (for Kulm) and Pour le mérite (for the capture of Paris) and the Bavarian - Maximilian (for Sompui).

With the rank of colonel - from October 22, 1816 - he was enlisted on December 7, 1817 in the newly formed Life Guards Ulansky Regiment , and on November 23, 1819 he was appointed commander of the Polish Lancers Regiment.

The Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829

In production on April 18, 1826, he was promoted to major general on December 6, 1826, to the command of the Horse Grenadier Life Guards Regiment . With this regiment, Glazenap participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1828-1829. in the battles of Hadji Gassan, near Varna (on September 18th he was shell-shocked in his left side) and at Kamchik and in the siege of Silistra and was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir, 3rd art. (for Hadji Gassan) and November 20, 1828 received a golden saber, decorated with diamonds, with the inscription "For courage."

On March 14, 1829, while remaining a regimental commander, he received command of the 2nd Brigade of the 1st Light Guards Cavalry Division.

1830 Polish Uprising

During the suppression of the Polish rebellion, Glazenap with his brigade took part in various reconnaissance and vanguard affairs, and then in the general battles of Ostroleka and Warsaw and received the Order of St. Anne of the 1st degree (for avant-garde affairs), St. Vladimir of the 2nd degrees (for Ostroleka), St. George 3rd degree (October 18, 1831, No. 445 according to the cavalier lists of Sudravsky and Grigorovich - Stepanov)

 In retribution of the excellent courage and courage shown on August 25 and 26, 1831 during the assault on the Warsaw fortifications. 

After the war, he commanded for a short time the 1st Brigade of the same division (from January 20, 1832), and then the divisions: 2nd Ulan (interim commander from February 10, 1832, chief from September 13 of the same year), 5 -th light cavalry (from February 4, 1836) and again the 2nd Uhlan (from July 22, 1842). Retired

Since 1844 he lived in St. Petersburg. In addition to military distinctions, he was awarded the orders of St. Stanislav 1st degree (1829) and the White Eagle (1837) and two precious snuffboxes (in 1836 and 1842).

Glazenap died, already retired, on December 16, 1862 in St. Petersburg and was buried in the Volkov Lutheran cemetery .

Family

He was married twice: the first time - on Magdalena Milevskaya, the second time - on the daughter of Lieutenant General Sergei Vasilyevich Neklyudov , Varvara Sergeevna (1795-1844). Their children:
