History
During the Qin Empire, Fuhan County (ань 罕 县) was formed in these places. Under the Han Empire, these places became part of Jincheng County (金城 郡), and a number of new counties were created here.
Under the empire of Early Liang , the Hezhou region (河 州) was created in 344, the authorities of which were located in the administrative center of Fuhang County. Under the empire of Western Qin, in 412 Tsifu Chipan, after his father was killed, moved the capital to Fuhang and proclaimed himself ruler of the country. Under the North Wei Empire, the Hezhou region was disbanded in 445, but was re-created in 492. Under the Western Wei empire, Fuhang County (枹 罕 郡) was also created; both the authorities in Fuhan County and the authorities in Hezhou County were located in the administrative center of Fuhan County.
Under the Sui Empire, in 583, Fuhang County was disbanded, and Fuhan County became directly subordinate to the Hezhou region. In 607, the Hezhou region was transformed into Fuhang County.
After the founding of the Tang empire in 618, Fuhang County again became a Hezhou province. In 742, it was transformed into Anxiang County (安 乡 郡), but in 758 it again became the province of Hezhou.
After the Xinhai Revolution , a reform of the administrative-territorial structure was carried out in China, and in 1913 the Hezhou region was transformed into Daohe County (导 河 县). In 1917, Nindin County (宁 定 县) was established. In 1929, Daohe County was renamed Lingxia County (临夏 县); in the same year, Yongjing County was created from the adjacent parts of the territories of Linxia and Gaolan counties, and Hezheng county from the adjacent parts of the territories of Linxia and Lintao counties.
In 1940, Kanle County was allocated from Lintao County.
In 1949, the Linxia Special Area (临夏 专区) was formed, consisting of 8 counties. In 1950, the urbanized part of Linxia County was allocated to a separate city of Linxia, and on September 25, the Dongxiang Autonomous Region (东乡 自治区) was formed.
In 1953, Linxia became a city of provincial subordination; Nindin County was transformed into Guantong-Hui Autonomous Region (广 通 回族 自治区), Gannan-Tibet Autonomous Region was allocated from Lintan County; the national character was added to the name of the Dongxiang Autonomous Region, and it began to be written as 东乡族 自治区. In 1955, the Guangdong Hui Autonomous Region was transformed into the Guangdong Hui Autonomous County (广 通 回族 自治县), and the Dongxiang Autonomous Region into the Dongxiang Autonomous County.
On November 19, 1956, the Linxia Special Region was transformed into the Linxia Hui Autonomous Region; The Guantong Hui Autonomous County was transformed into Guangdong County (广 通县). In 1957, Guangdong County was renamed Guanghe. In 1958, a number of counties were united among themselves, but in 1961 they were recreated within their former borders.
On June 14, 1980, by the decision of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Jishishan-Bao'an-Dongxiang-Salar Autonomous County was allocated from Linxia County.
