Story
Old man Moses Ebrams, who was known as a stubborn picky birch who lived alone ten years after the death of his wife, once finds in his garden after a thunderstorm a strange plant-like, but unlike anything wounded creature. He brings him to his house, but it dies. Mose buryes the creature, but after a few days it regains life and sprouts. The creature becomes the only one attached to Mose, his only friend over the years. And then Mose spends all his money - a pot with silver dollar coins to melt them and pour out the parts for the apparatus that will take his friend home. In parting, the creature gives Mose a ball that awakens incredible calm and happiness in him.
Idea
“In the bottomless depths of the Universe it was lonely and dreary without a Friend. Who knows when it will still be possible to find another. Perhaps he did something unreasonable, but the old savage was so kind, so awkward, miserable, and so wanted to help. And one whose path is far and swift, must travel light. He had nothing more to give the old man as a souvenir. ”
