Biography

Born in the family of a small employee. He graduated from FZU at the plant. K. Marx, worked as a fashion designer. In 1929, according to the Komsomol set, he entered the Leningrad Pedagogical Institute. A. Herzen at the socio-economic faculty. Among his teachers: A. E. Kudryavtsev , Y. M. Zaher , S. S. Gorlovsky .

After graduation, he taught Marxism-Leninism at the Tomsk Mining Institute . He graduated from the graduate school of the Leningrad Institute of History, Philosophy, Literature and Linguistics ( LIFLI ), where he studied under E.V. Tarle and P.P. Shchegolev . He was recruited as an informant of the NKVD , regularly supplied information about graduate students, teachers and professors of the institute, including his supervisor S. S. Gorlovsky [2] [3] . In 1937 he defended his thesis “Political crisis of 1862 in Prussia”; official opponents E.V. Tarle and A.I. Molok . For one year he was drafted into the army, served near Novgorod in aviation as a radio operator-gunner.

In 1939, V. G. Revunenkov became an assistant professor at the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of the History Department of Leningrad State University , but in 1940 he was called up for teaching and political work in the Red Army. He taught at the Higher Military-Political School, which was located in the Konstantinovsky Palace in Strelna, after the outbreak of the war, served in the lecture group of the political administration of the Pacific Fleet. In 1943-1947 - Associate Professor at the Department of International Politics of the Military-Political School (Academy) , which resumed work in Moscow. Since 1947, at the Military Pedagogical Institute in Leningrad.

In 1951 he defended his doctoral dissertation ("The Polish Question and the Diplomatic Struggle in Europe in the late 50s and early 60s of the XIX century.").

In 1952, V. G. Revunenkov returned to the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of the History Department of Leningrad State University. From 1957 to 1990, he headed the department, from 1951 to 1959 he was dean of the faculty.

The main areas of scientific interests: the new history of Germany, Poland, France, Latin America, the history of international relations. But the main topic of research was the history of France in the late XVIII - early XIX centuries. V. G. Revunenkov was the author of the only generalizing work on the history of the Great French Revolution in recent years. Some of his writings sparked a discussion among Soviet historians.

He was married to the archaeologist F. D. Gurevich . Daughter Elena (born 1939) is an ethnographer, and his son-in-law is a linguist L.G. Herzenberg (1934-2012).

In October 2005, an international conference on the history of the Great French Revolution dedicated to the memory of Revunenkov was held at the Faculty of History of St. Petersburg State University.
