Ali (air base)

Ali ( Arabic: قاعدة الإمام علي الجوية ) is a military air base located near the city of Nasiriya ( Iraq ). For unknown reasons, in Western publications in the 1990s and 2000s it was referred to as Tallil ( English Tallil , Arabic. قاعدة طليل الجوية ), although in reality it never bore this name [1] .

The air base was built in the 1970s and was actively used by the Iraqi Air Force during the war with Iran ( 1980 - 1988 ). During the Persian Gulf War ( 1991 ), the base was occupied by American troops [2] . After the end of hostilities, Iraqi aviation no longer used it. In 2003, the base was again occupied by US troops. As of 2008, the 407th Expeditionary Air Force Group of the United States Air Force (military transport aircraft C-130 ) is based on it. The base also has army units calling it Camp Adder .

The airbase has two runways (3650 and 2950 m long).

Near the base are the ruins of the ancient Sumerian city of Ur .
