The village is located on the left bank of the Arpa River, 8 km south-west of Jermuk , 6 km northeast of the Yerevan - Goris highway and 12 km northeast of Vayk . Near the village are located medieval cave complexes and the Gndevank Monastery ( X century ). According to historical sources, the monastery was built by order of the wife of Prince Smbat , Sofia. She left a commemorative inscription:

"A ring without a stone was Vayots-Dzor . I built this monastery and inserted a gem in its frame [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]"

In 2004, gas was delivered to the village. [8] Summer fires pose big problems for villagers. [9] Near the village of Gndevaz, on the left slope of the gorge, a vertical cliff with a height of more than 100 m is striking. This is the "Rock of the Communards", where in 1921, during the rebellion, the Dashnaks pushed a group of Communists into the abyss. [ten]
