Story
The story is a variation on the theme of the three pigs in the entourage of World War II : two pigs signed a non-aggression pact with the Big Bad Wolf (which is a caricature of Hitler ), while the third pig (Sergeant Pig - English Sergeant Pork ) was prudently preparing for armed defense since I read in the newspaper about Wolf’s plans to attack the country of piglets under the name "Swinland" (the name of the film is a hint at the real plans of the Wolf and at the same time an allusion to Blitzkrieg’s theory of fleeting warfare).
Miscellaneous
- This is the first cartoon created by Tex Avery at MGM.
- The MGM opening screen saver with a roaring lion head is accompanied by the orchestra's “Hold That Tiger” tune.
- The film contains a scene referring the viewer to a military operation called Doolittle's Raid .
- Actor Pinto Colwig dubbed Sergeant Pig in the same manner that he used to sound the Three Little Pigs Disney movie .
- The cartoon ends with a joke in which viewers are encouraged to buy a brand or a bond. For war cartoons and comics, this was common.
- Two of the four animators working on the tape ( Preston Blair and Ed Love) were former Disney employees who had just left him after the 1941 strike.
- At the beginning of the cartoon, two little pigs sing a verse to their militarized brother:
You're in the Army Now,
You're Not Behind the Plow,
You're Diggin 'a Ditch,
pause, image freezes for 1 second
You're in the Army Now!
A pause was mounted in the tape over the line " Eng. You Son of a Bitch ” , the presence of which in the film was declared unacceptable. This gag is like a joke from Warner Bros. "The Draft Horse . "
- The cartoon was released by MGM / UA Home Video on VHS. In the USSR and Russia there was a shortage of "pirated" video cassettes, and then the translations were of the same voice with different male voices [ significance of fact? ] .
