Along with the Moscow Football League , the St. Petersburg Football League , the Kiev Football League , the Kharkov Football League , the St. Petersburg Student Football League , the Nikolaev Sports Club , the Sevastopol Circle of Sports Amateurs and the Tver Circle of Cyclists, Skaters and Sports Lovers, became a member of the 6 (19) January 1912 of the All-Russian Football Union - the highest football body of the Russian Empire . [1] The birthday of organized Odessa football is considered to be April 12 (25), 1912 , when the All-Russian Football Union officially registered the football league established in Odessa.
Tournament history and results
In the fall of 1910, the Sheremetyevo Circle made the first attempt to organize a football league in Odessa on the initiative of its member Alexander Gabrielevich Livshits. He gathered a meeting of representatives of the strongest Odessa clubs ( O. B. A. K. , S. K., and A. K. F. ), who decided to organize the right (by the rules) competitions in the spring of 1911 .
For the second time, representatives of the clubs gathered in February 1911 , electing Julius Embros , the editor-in-chief of Sporting Life magazine , and Alexander Livshits as secretary, as chairman of the provisional committee. The future head of the Odessa football referees board, John Gerd, who helped the season went smoothly, was a great help to the first championship.
In the autumn of 1911, a meeting of representatives of clubs came to the conclusion that it was impossible to conduct matters further because of the large number of meetings (from each club 5-6 people came to them), and elected a standing committee composed of: Chairman - Ernest Jacobs, Deputy Chairman - John James Gerd, secretary-treasurer - Pavel Antonovich Patron, members - Andersen and Fyodor Stephen, candidates - Albert Gelier and Alexander Livshits.
In 1913, the city team was made up of the best players of the league, which became the winner of the All-Russian Championship , but was not officially approved as a champion, as the championship due to numerous violations was decided to be considered unparsed.
Season 1911 (Spring)
The first official city championship
The first official city championship was conducted by the editorial board of the Odessa magazine Sport Life in the spring of 1911 .
The official history of the championships was opened by the match between the “Sheremetyevskiy sports circle” and O.K.F. , which took place on February 20 (in the new style - March 5 ) in 1911 at 12.00 at the Sheremetyevo stadium. The game ended with a big victory for the home team (3: 0). On the same day, O. B. A. K. in his field with a score of 3: 1 beat the Sporting Club .
For the winner in the first category, the editorial board of the “Sporting Life” instituted a challenge cup, which was won by the players of the Odessa British Athletic Club ( O. B. A. A. K. ). In their composition, the city’s first champions were goalkeeper Robson, field players Albert Gelier, James Gerd, Owen, Carr, Marcusi, Perkins, Blum, Gratwood, Ernest Jacobs, Firth, Jonas, Casimir Piotrovsky and the captain (he is also a playing coach) James Martin .
The Sporting Club runner-up declared to participate in the championship called “Stud d'Odessa” and was formed from players of the Indo ( Indo-European Telegraph ) teams, the student team and the team of “ Gregory Bogemsky” that disbanded before the start of the championship. Sporting Club ” as a captain.
The team "Victoria" held two matches, after which she withdrew from the draw.
The best scorer of the championship can safely be considered the Englishman Ernest Jacobs, who scored in the vast majority of matches of his team. Unfortunately, it is not possible to establish the exact number of goals scored because there is no complete statistics. As well as the final indicators of the difference between goals scored and goals conceded by all teams. They are listed in the table with a small margin of error.

Beginning in the fall of 1911, all subsequent city championships were held according to the “autumn-spring” formula - at two half-seasons - with a break for winter time. And it was from the 1911/12 season that the Odessa Football League took over the organization of the city championship (chaired by Ernest Jacobs). The League Secretariat has established a number of prizes for the winners and prize-winners. The winner of the first category was awarded the Ernest Jacobs Cup, the second place winner was A. A. Bokhanov's silver shield, the winners of the second category were the John Gerd Cup, the winners of the third were the K. U. Oksha-Orzhehovsky Cup. All these rare trophies forever remained part of history. No one knows what their fate was like.
Grigory Bogemsky became the top scorer in the first category, whose performance was noticed even in Moscow .

The landmark championship, during which in December 1912, the Odessa Football League joined the All-Russian Football Union , and according to its results in the summer of 1913, the legendary Odessa team, winning the Russian Empire championship (alas, canceled), was formed from the best players of the OFL clubs. But the main outcome of the championship was the triumph of the Sheremetyevo Sport Circle , which became the first club made up of Odessa players who won the city championship.
Vasilyev, Tikhonyuk, Viktor Bolgarov, Barsky, Gizer, Gavrilov, Falensky, Yavorsky, Prokopov, Chorba and the top scorer of the championship Alexander Zlochevsky , who scored 41 goals, became champions of the city.

"Sporting Club" almost set the record of the OFL, losing the championship in the 2nd and 3rd categories only in the final round. The finish of the city championship in the first category turned out to be difficult for S. K .: 0: 2 defeat in the penultimate match with O. B. A. K. deprived the leader of the right to make a mistake, but in the final game everything worked out - 5: 1 was “Thurn-Ferein” was defeated, which brought the long-awaited champion title to the team of Gregory of Bohemia .
Sergey Pogorelkin, Oleg Danilov, Angert, Ivanov, Kasabudsky, Gesler, Yuli Dyhno, Vitis, Bogemsky , Sobolevsky, Boritsky, Anton Motekeites, Mikhail Verbitsky became champions of the city in the "Sporting Club" .
It should be noted the unpleasant fact of the delivery of tournament positions of the British club . Only occasionally did Ernest Jacobs’s team demonstrate the usual level of play, and in half of the matches it looked like its pale shadow. As the future championships showed, this was the beginning of the end of the story of the first champion of Odessa .

“Sheremetyevtsy” regained the champion title, despite the fact that during the autumn half-season, the game of “Sporting Club” , the line of attack of which at that time was considered the best in the city, caused the greatest sympathy among experts.
The championship was held in the harsh conditions of the war , due to which most of the league clubs were weakened by personnel losses of the players who went to the front .

Like the Sheremetyevo team , Sporting Club regained its champion title a year later.
The championship itself due to the war significantly lost in the quantitative composition, having lost several teams. This seriously affected the quality of football and the state of other teams, which include recognized grants.
The main disappointment of the season was Sh. K. , who closed the final standings in the first category.

For the first time, the city championship was won by the John Gerd Club - FK KF .
For the third year in a row, Vega won the AA Bokhanov Shield, and in the 3rd category, won the championship and won the Oksha-Orzhehovsky Cup as a property.
Odessa Championship almost never covered in the press of 1916-17. and restore a full standings is not possible. Thanks to the “Bulletin of the Petrograd Football League”, on the pages of which from time to time messages from Odessa appeared under the heading “Provincial Chronicle”, it was possible to recreate only the final classification in all three categories with the total scores.

History has not retained any evidence regarding the championship 1918/19. Given that the only pride of Odessa’s sports, the Football League, was going to close its activities back in February 1918 , it can be considered a feat of preserving the championship in any of its formats. Only invaluable information about the winner of the championship, which was Vega, reached us. The champion era of this team began at the junction of epochs: it is symbolic that the football club, whose distinctive sign was a red star, became the first champion of Soviet Odessa.
