Ziyad-Samir Jarrah ( Arabic: زياد سمير جراح ; May 11, 1975 - September 11, 2001 ) - Lebanese terrorist, leader of four hijackers who captured United Airlines Flight 93 during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack.
Biography
He came from a rich secular family, studied in Germany (where his Turkish bride lived), hid his passion for radical Islamism, and led an emphasized secular lifestyle; For a long time, his very participation in the attack was called into question until his video “testament”, recorded in Afghanistan by Osama bin Laden in 2000, was found. Shortly before the attack, he wrote the bride a letter drawn up in very vague terms; in addition to phrases like “I did what I had to do, you will see what will happen”, the letter seems to have plans for further life.
Flight 93 took off later than the other hijacked planes (in addition, it was 30 minutes late due to airport overload) and was taken under control after the first two flights crashed into the WTC towers, and the third flew to the Pentagon. Jarra, trained in the United States to fly an airplane, piloted a flight after hijacking, headed for Washington (allegedly planning to crash into the Capitol with him) and, like other hijackers, announced to passengers that he was allegedly going to return to the airport and present his demands there. His plans, however, were thwarted due to the resistance of passengers who managed to begin the assault on the cockpit. Either in the fight against passengers who had already burst into the cockpit, or wanting to throw them back, Jarra was forced to deviate from the course towards Washington and lost control of the aircraft, after which he crashed into a field in Shanksville , Pennsylvania .
Among the wreckage of the aircraft, a charred passport of Jarrah was found. The remains of Jarrah (as well as 3 other hijackers), separated from the DNA of the remains of 40 victims of the terrorist attack by exclusion, were confiscated by the FBI as evidence, a death certificate was issued against him with the cause of death “suicide”.
