"Charter of the game of Russian drafts"
The monograph appendix contains rules for drafts competitions (work on which began more than 30 years ago).
In 1878, M. I. Chigorin, editor of the Chess Sheet, turned to D. I. Sargin with a proposal to draw up a list of the most important rules. As D. I. Sargin himself wrote in a commentary (“The Antiquity of Drafts and Chess Games,” p.303-304)
My little article, then written hastily and without a system, did not get into print. Subsequently, I sent it to M.K. Gonyaev , who wrote the first charter of the game ... I took an active part in drafting and editing this charter. The chess charter of K. A. Yanish (1854-1857) was especially useful to us.
In 1884, the "Charter of the Drafts Game" was published in the journal Rainbow (No. 15.16), where the chess and drafts department was conducted by D. I. Sargin together with P. P. Bobrov . Anticipating the publication, the editors wrote that the charter
compiled by our famous checker game theoretician M.K. Gonyaev. The game still does not have a set of rules, for A. D. Petrov they are stated very briefly, and many cases that could give rise to disputes are not mentioned at all [1] .
D. I. Sargin wrote about her that “in principle, he perfectly resolves all the main issues of both the game itself and its external routines”, at the same time emphasizing that it is not without some shortcomings. It was this circumstance that prompted him to take up the revision of the document, which was reprinted in the journal of the brothers A. and V. Shoshins, in the new edition and under the new title “The Charter of the Game of Russian Drafts M. K. Gonyaev and D. I. Sargin” A checker sheet ”(1903, No. 2/4, p. 33-42).
Including in the monograph “The Charter of the Drafts Game”, D. I. Sargin wrote about the changes made by him: “Here, in addition to the language, better distribution of articles and their reduction, a score of 15 moves has been introduced for the struggle of three ladies against one, the articles about a draw in giveaways, and only 15 moves were given for disputed endings, and, most importantly, articles on illegal actions were highlighted in a special chapter and their application was given a practically convenient character ”(“ The Antiquity of Drafts and Chess Games, p.306).
Further, on page 309, noting the merits of MK K. Gonyaev in creating the charter, D. I. Sargin wrote: “Now I do not call him that, because immediately after publication they began to mean my last name; to insist on a practically inconvenient, if only exact, title would be aimless. The only important thing is that amateurs know how the charter was drawn up, that it does not represent anything essentially new against the charter of M.K. G. It could easily be that if the late lover of his charter did not write in a remarkably systematic exposition, there would be no real of the charter. ”
