Sherkala ( Kaz. Shergala ) is a lonely mountain of unusual shape, about 94 km northeast of the city of Aktau , 18 km from the village of Shetpe. If you look at it on the one hand, the mountain resembles a huge white yurt , but on the other, Shergala is like a sleeping lion with its huge head resting on its paws. Therefore, they called the mountain - Shergala, which is translated from Turkmen as “Lion Mountain” or “Lion Mountain”.

Lion Mountain is surrounded by a halo of curious legends. Its limestone slopes are steep and only to the top they become flat, forming a giant tent, resembling the top of a yurt . You can climb it only with special equipment. To get around Chergal, it will take at least an hour. And if you want to look into some of the many caves , wander around the site of an ancient settlement, looking for shards, witnesses of past civilizations, then you don’t have enough time. There is a popular belief, if you make a wish before going around Shergala, it will come true. But the main thing is that after every bend, after a new turn, an amazing view opens up, so unusual that sometimes it seems that you are on an uninhabited planet.
Around Shergaly there is a scattering of spherical boulders - nodules of various sizes. Many cracked by the wind. Other small nodules are broken. Inside is a trace of a shell or fish. The steppe at the foot of the mountain turns green, blooms.
Not far from Chergaly a green oasis . This is a spring and a small river Akmysh. Here, in the shade of centuries-old trees, under the sonorous trills of birds, it is pleasant to sit listening to the story of the Mangyshlak fortification. It was built on the caravan route, which, centuries ago, traded between Bukhara and the northern lands. This city was burned several centuries ago. Sherkala is considered one of the shrines of Mangystau . Popular tourist attraction [1] .
