Player Career

Clubs

He started his football career at the Alpine club [3] , who at that time was in the second-tier Austrian division. In 1978 he moved to Vienna " Austria ". The first season in the capital club turned out to be successful. The club won the Austrian championship by a margin of 14 points, and Schachner became the league's top scorer with 24 goals scored [4] . In the European Cup 1978/79 “Austria” reached the semifinals, Schachner scored 5 goals [5] . In the 1980/81 season, he won his third league title, but spent only 13 goals in 29 games.

In the Turin club he played along with the attackers of the Italian national team - first with Franco Selvagi , then with Aldo Serena . In the 1984/85 season, Torino took second place in Serie A , thanks to which, in the next season, he played in the UEFA Cup (reached the second round). In 1986, Schachner moved to Avellino , which then performed in the C1 Series . In 1988 he returned to Austria, to the club " Sturm " from Graz. Subsequently played in several more teams of the highest and First leagues of Austria. Finished his playing career in 1998 at the age of 41.

He made his debut in the national team of Austria on December 5, 1976 in the qualifying match of the 1978 World Championship against Malta . After 10 days, in his next game for the national team, he scored his first international goal. Participated in the 1978 World Cup , spent 3 matches on it, scored 1 goal. At the 1982 World Championships, he played in all five matches of the Austrian national team, scoring 2 goals. From January 2006 to March 2007, he was the head coach of the German club Munich 1860 , who played in the Second Bundesliga . In July 2007 he headed the newly created team “ Austria Kernten ”, in December 2007 he was dismissed from the post of head coach, but remained the sports director of the club.
