Blasphemy (translated from English Blasphemy ) is a black metal band formed in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada in 1984. The group became one of the first bands in the style of black metal and its sub-style - Primitive / Random Black. After releasing a demo called Blood Upon the Altar (1989), they were signed to Wild Rags, where they released their debut album Fallen Angel of Doom (1990). The vocalist of the group later expressed dissatisfaction with the label, saying that the label did not fulfill its obligations.

The second studio album, entitled Gods of War, was released on Osmose Productions in 1993. In the same year, Blasphemy together with Immortal and Rotting Christ made a concert tour in Europe called the Fuck Christ Tour. After that, the group had a long break in creative activity, and only in 2001 the demo Die Hard Rehearsal was released. In 2002, the live album Live Ritual: Friday the 13th was released , which is a record of a performance in Vancouver in 2001.
The music of Blasphemy influenced subsequent generations of black metallers, as evidenced by the numerous cover versions of the band's compositions.
